SMITHER PARK MEMORY WALL - SECTION 4

"Ellaminope - Genie of the Moon and Uranus"

c. 2012

Designed & Constructed by: Dennis Starks

ABOUT THE DESIGN

The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change and transformation, so it seems to me, a perfect symbol for the metamorphosis of an empty lot into an enchanted park.

I chose as my inspiration a famous jeweled corsage pin by the art nouveau artist Rene Lalique. I lucked upon a fabulous cache of very fine broken antique plates that I used to decorate the wings.  She is named after my favorite letters of the alphabet. LMNOP. If you look carefully in the top left quadrant you can find Uranus. I like to think of her as the magical guardian of Smither Park.

She is dedicated to my parents, Robert and Viola Starks.
